It’s a story most Bundy fans know well: in September 1969 Elizabeth Kloepfer was new in Seattle, and one night along with her friend and fellow Utah transplant Mary Lynn Chino went to a small college bar called The Sandpiper, where she met Ted Bundy. The two went on to have a tumultuous, on again/off again six year relationship, and Ted played a big part in raising Kloepfer’s young daughter, Molly. Over the years The SandPiper Tavern has changed hands (and names) a few times, and most recently has been dubbed ‘Ladd & Lass Brewing.’
The outside of The (former) SandPiper Tavern, now called ‘Ladd & Lass Brewing.’ I took most of these pictures in April 2024 when I went to Seattle for the second time, and this time around I was able to go in and have (half) of a beer, as I am not a big drinker but at the same time wanted to be able to say I had a drink here. The entrance of Ladd & Lass Brewing, photo taken in April 2024.A picture taken the first time I went to Seattle, looking from the outside in, taken in April 2022.Another picture taken the first time I went to Seattle, looking from the outside in, taken in April 2022.The brew room at Ladd & Lass Brewing, photo taken in April 2024.A shot of the front part of Ladd & Lass Brewing, photo taken in April 2024.Another shot of the front part of Ladd & Lass Brewing, photo taken in April 2024.Another part of the brewery room at Ladd & Lass Brewing, photo taken in April 2024.The back part of Ladd & Lass Brewing. Up until about five years ago I lived paycheck to paycheck, and after getting two really good jobs I banked quite a bit of money and decided to start traveling. In April 2022 I went to Seattle and since then have been to Florida, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, Colorado, Cobleskill (in NY, for a suspected Bundy victim) and Portland (on that trip I also went back to Seattle). I’ve been retracing the steps of Ted Bundy and taking pictures along the way.
Where Bundy’s very first home once stood in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, where he lived with his mother, aunt, and maternal grandparents until he was three years old; it was formerly located at ‘7202 Ridge Avenue’ and is now ‘499 Domino Lane.’ Picture taken in May 2023.The Cowell family’s second home. A diabetic (and agoraphobic), Eleanor Cowell had suffered a stroke in the mid-1950’s and underwent electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for depression. Louise and Ted lived here briefly when they moved to Washington state in 1951. Picture taken in April 2022.The Bundy family’s first home, April 2022. During an interview with author Stephen G. Michaud, Ted talked about his time living here: ‘Our house was on Sheridan Street in Tacoma. It was the second house from the corner, on the west side of the street. We moved there, I would guess, in about 1951. My boyhood on Sheridan Street was not an unpleasant one. I remember those days, of roaming with my friends. The adventure, the exploration. Those were the days of frog hunting and marble playing.’The Bundy family’s second home, located at 658 North Skyline Drive in Tacoma; Ted spent a good portion of his adolescent years living here. Picture taken in April 2022.The former house of eight-year-old Ann Marie Burr, located at 3009 North 14th Street in Tacoma, WA. The oldest of five, on the morning she went missing on August 31, 1961 her mother, Beverly, woke up early and noticed that Ann wasn’t in her room, and after walking downstairs, she noticed that the front door was slightly open along with the living room window. There’s so many rumors about Bundy and Ann Marie Burr: my favorite is that his Uncle Jack was her piano teacher, and where she did take lessons, he wasn’t her instructor. Also, it’s said that Ted was her neighbor as well as the Burrs’ paperboy… and where he did deliver newspapers as a youngster, he was not hers, and where they didn’t live super far away from one another they were hardly neighbors (I made the 3.3 mile walk from the Ann’s house to Ted’s during my first trip to Seattle). Its strongly thought he began his employment there in September 1967, but how long he was there for seems to be a bit of a gray area: Mrs. Ferris said he was there for roughly six weeks, but Ann Rule wrote in ‘The Stranger Beside Me’ that he worked there for six months. Additionally, Dr. Robert Dielenberg’s true crime masterpiece ‘A Visual Timeline’ said he parked cars at the club and left in January 1968.The Seattle Yacht Club, located at 1807 E Hamlin Street in the Montlake neighborhood of Seattle. I will say, I’m not sure if this address is a mistake, as it is incredibly similar to 5015 16th Street, but who knows. The (fuzzy) picture was taken in November 2022.A current picture of where Bundy got arrested for the first time, taken in November 2022.A horrible quality picture of Bundy’s first arrest site (as I am no master photographer), taken in November 2022.The entrance to the Utah State Corrections Facility, picture taken in November 2022. Where I hate admitting defeat, I knew I would have to take the L on this one. I have been searching for Bundy’s gas receipts for YEARS. I’ve always struggled with insomnia, and last night at around 4 AM found a TB website I never came across before and read through EVERYTHING. Thank you to the ‘Ted Bundy Archives’ WordPress page and Kevin Sullivan for this information.

A .PDF document of reports related to the extensive searches made in the Issaquah and Taylor Mountain areas in relation to Ted Bundy.
According to the Issaquah Dump Site report, the skeletons were badly scattered by animals and no evidence of trauma, dismemberment or assault could be detected, and no clothing, jewelry, or other personal effects were near the scene. The report concluded that the victims were probably killed elsewhere and dumped at the dump sites shortly after they disappeared. After the search made in the area, three sets of bones were found, and two of them were determined to have belonged to Janice Ott and Denise Naslund. The skull of Janice Ott was still missing as were the skull and mandible of the third person, and for the third set of bones the two possible victims were thought to have been Georgann Hawkins and Donna Manson. A large quantity of immature elk bones were found 1/4 mile east of the scene on ‘Sunset Highway.’
According to the Taylor Mountain DS report, the skulls and/or mandibles of Lynda Healy, Susan Rancourt, Kathy Parks, and Brenda Ball were found at this location; several other bones were also found at this location, but were eventually determined to be non-human. The report specifies that this gave rise to the theory that the girls had been decapitated, but no cervical vertebrae were found in the search. The report further specifies that animals in the area included coyotes, bears and rodents, adding that the possibility of their consuming all bones of the body was slim.
The Taylor Mountain Dump Site report also states that the area at all times of the year was very brushy and would have been extremely dense during June when Brenda Ball disappeared, positing that the killer could have dumped the bodies in an area of evergreens nearby where there was less underbrush but no grease spots were found in that area either.

When I went to Seattle in April 2022 there were a few places I never got around to seeing, one of them being Bundy’s Issaquah dump site… but it certainly wasn’t for lack of trying: I drove around the same three mile area for almost two hours one day trying to find it (Google Maps really dropped the ball with that one, IMO). I finally had to give up because it was taking precious time away from other places I needed to see, and as I was driving away I remember thinking to myself that I’d never get back there again and I blew it. But, thankfully in May 2024 I was able to spend a few days in Washington state during my vacation to Oregon and I was finally able to locate it, with a little help with my friend Cole Kaiser, who is awesome and deserves recognition for his help.
Issaquah is a small city located about fifteen miles east of Seattle. Back in 1974, it was much (much) less populated than it is today, going from 4,500 residents to roughly 40,000. The Issaquah dump site is where Ted Bundy dumped the bodies of Janice Ann Ott, Denise Marie Naslund, and (most likely) Georgann Hawkins (despite her body never positively being identified). A University of Washington student, Hawkins was last seen in the early morning hours of June 11, 1974 after leaving a party early and stopping by her boyfriend’s dormitory room to get some Spanish notes for an upcoming final she was worried about. She stopped and chatted with a male friend named Duane (who was a Beta Theta Pi fraternity brother, like her bf) out his window then walked off into the night and was never seen again. Twenty-three year old Ott and nineteen year old Naslundboth disappeared on July 14th, 1974 from Lake Sammamish State Park, which is located just ten minutes away from the dump site. All three girls vanished without a trace until later that year on September 6th, when two hunters discovered what they strongly suspected were human skeletal remains while out looking for grouse.
Upon arrival Seattle based LE discovered a variety of human bones, most of which had been dispersed throughout the wooded area thanks to local wildlife (including, but not limited to, bobcats, bears, coyotes, and cougars). Among the bones found were teeth, a jawbone, pelvis, a skull, five femurs, and a spine, and investigators quickly determined that some of them belonged to Ott and Naslund. During Bundy’s death row confessions he also claimed that he buried Hawkins at the site as well, but investigators were never able to positively confirm this.
At the time of the murders in the mid-1970’s forensic experts (in most cases) needed either a mandible or skull to make a positive ID, as they often relied on matching teeth against dental records due to the fact that DNA testing wasn’t a ‘thing’ back then. Some of the bones that were found at the site were cremated and as a result were never able to be tested, as it was apparently ‘department policy’ to incinerate bones that were left unidentified in storage for too long. As I said earlier, the search team recovered five femur bones from the area, which retired King County Detective Dr. Robert D. Keppel said proved that Bundy dumped at least three victims there.
Looking at the pictures that I included below (of the site from the 1970’s to now), it’s obvious the area has undergone quite a transformation over the past fifty years. For example, Highlands Drive wasn’t there at all, and the Swedish Issaquah Campus wasn’t built until over 30 years after the murders took place. Additionally, back in 1974 the area could only be accessed through a narrow and winding dirt pathway, and the railway line that ran through the city’s Olde Town neighborhood was taken out and replaced by the Rainier and Issaquah-Preston walking trails that are still there today.
Despite The Issaquah dump site being the first one that was found it wasn’t the first one that Bundy utilized: six months after its discovery in March 1975 a second dumping ground of bodies was discovered at nearby Taylor Mountain (also called Tiger Mountain) when two forestry students from nearby Green River Community College stumbled upon skeletal remains while marking trees for a school project. I wonder what Bundy’s logic was for switching up his dump sites, moving from Taylor Mountain (where he left Lynda Healy, Brenda Ball, Kathy Parks, and Sue Rancourt) to Issaquah. Did he want to move somewhere else in an attempt to throw off law enforcement? We also know that he was impulsive and often made decisions quickly and without much thought: did he just stumble across this location one day and decide to utilize it? Or did Ted maybe have a close call at Taylor Mountain, possibly running into other (late night) hikers or even a policeman out on patrol?
During his January 1989 confession Ted told Dr. Keppel that he buried Georgann’s head in an area that was very close to the dump site, roughly 25–50 yards north parallel to the dirt road before turning left and walking about ten years ‘through the trees, eventually coming across an area he described as ‘very rocky’ and ‘very rocky.’ Investigators didn’t wait long to go looking for Hawkin’s remains after Bundy was put to death, and on February 15, 1989 search teams combed through the Issaquah dump site once again, but were unable to find any trace of the young co-ed. We do know that Ted was known to imbibe during his murders, and very well could have been drunk, high, or both. When you consider that and the fact that the murder was committed nearly fifteen years prior to his confession it might explain why no trace of George was ever found. Or… was Bundy purposefully giving investigators the bare minimum in an attempt to get another stay of execution. Or, was it all just another lie?

When I went to Utah in November 2022 there was one location I was completely unaware existed that I wish I (somehow) knew to include in my list: the supposed ‘Ted Bundy Ritual House’ just outside of SLC in Bountiful. The duplex-style residence is located at 1201 North 200 West, and is said to be ‘just across the street’ from Viewmont High School, which is where Deb Kent was abducted by Bundy on November 8, 1974 after his botched kidnapping attempt of Carol DaRonch just 45 minutes away in Murray. Kent was last seen at roughly 10:30 PM after leaving a showing of ‘The Redhead’ to go and pick up her brother from the nearby Rustic Roller Rink. According to eyewitnesses, there were loud screams heard from the parking lot at roughly the same time that she was last seen, and after the Kents realized that the family car had never left the parking lot they immediately contacted the police.
Before Bundy was executed in January 1989, he confessed to killing then 17 year-old Kent and pointed investigators to where he dumped her body. Upon searching Fairview Canyon later that May the only human remains that search crews located was a patella, which was found among the ten bags of animal bones that were collected. The kneecap was presumed to belong to Debra and was given to her family to hold onto, and it remained unidentified until 2015 when DNA testing confirmed that it belonged to her. After the positive ID the Bountiful PD returned the bone to Belva Kent along with her daughter’s official death certificate.
According to Redditor ‘je-m-en-fiche,’ Bountiful residents that lived in the area referred to it as the ‘Viewmont House’ because of its close proximity to the local high school. Looking into the residence, it’s in no way ‘close’ (in my opinion, anyways) to Viewmont HS, nor should it be considered just across the street (it’s actually 0.2 miles away, and is about a five minute walk). It was featured on the Travel Channel television show Ghost Adventures, ‘starring’ Zak Bagans and his group of cronies (including Aaron Goodwin and Nick Groff), specifically for the limited spin-off mini-series ‘Serial Killer Spirits.’ The episode, titled ’The Ted Bundy Ritual House,’ aired on October 26, 2019, and focused on the abandoned structure that has been uninhabited since a gas leak led to an explosion on July 4, 1997. The show’s creator and ‘lead investigator’ Zak Bagans claims that Bundy took Debra Kent there after abducting her after she left a showing of ‘The Red Head’ to go pick up her brothers from a nearby roller skating rink.
In addition to the TB ritual house, Ghost Adventures did episodes on HH Holmes (he killed a nine year old kid in a house in Irvington, Indiana and the current owner felt that dark and sinister forces had ‘overtaken the property’), Joliet Prison in Illinois (where John Wayne Gacy spent only a small amount of time), and an episode titled ‘Axe Killer Jail,’ where the team investigated a prison in Council Bluffs, IA, where SK Jake Bird was once housed.
Because the events of the episode are so ridiculously absurd, I’m not going to spend much time on a synopsis of it. In a nutshell, it began with some little ginger-haired boy that supposedly lived next door to the house (knowing Bagans it’s probably his own kid) peeing on a log on the front steps (Zak tells one of his cronies to smell it ‘for research,’ and he does), and of course the GA’s crew followed him home and gave him (and his mother) the third degree and told them exactly what they wanted to hear… and the guys ate it up like a piece of fucking cheesecake. When asked how he felt about the house the kid told Bagans that there were ten mean child-aged spirits that lived there and weretrying to kill him and they ‘better not go in there because they might kill you.’
In the beginning of the episode, a one-time resident of the home named Peter Kingston claimed that when they first moved in his family found weird, mysterious satanic symbols drawn on the walls, including various ‘devils signs’ (including a ‘big pentagram’ on the wall) and ‘666’s all over the place.’ At some point during the episode some guy named Vincent (who does not appear to be with Bagans’ crew and I don’t care enough about him to do any additional research) said that when he was in the house prior to the episode he was pushed down the stairs and almost went through the side railings. As the show progresses, the ghost hunters break out all their fancy bullshit equipment meant to detect supernatural activity, and of course everything they do results in some sort of captured phenomenon (I mean, no one would watch it if nothing happened), and plenty of jump scares and ‘sledgehammers of evil’ (Zak’s words, not mine) ensues.
One of the first things the GA team does upon entering the residence is attempt to open a portal on the floor near a pentagram using what Bagans calls a ‘geophone device,’ which he said ‘measures temperature and electromagnetic energy.’ However, according to the website HiggyPop that’ ‘isn’t strictly true. A geophone doesn’t detect heat or electromagnetic energy, as the name suggests it’s to do with geological movement and it actually detects vibration. The gadget Zak is using is called an EDI meter which has several functions built in, including EMF and thermometer as well as a geophone. Ironically the geophone is the one function of the device that Zak is not using.‘
In addition to the ‘geophone’ (that really isn’t a geophone), Bagans used night vision cameras, digital recorders, and a spirit box, which is a device that rapidly scans AM/FM radio frequencies in an attempt to pull paranormal messages out of the static and white noise. Two additional pieces of equipment the team used (that I have also never heard of before) is the Ovilus V (which is a tool that supposedly allows spirits to communicate with the living by selecting words from a internal database using their ‘energy’) and a TriField meter, which measures EMF in the form of radio-frequency, magnetic, and electric fields.
Zak and Aaron used an SLS camera in the upstairs part of the house, which is a device which ‘looks for’ human-like shapes in the darkness and supposedly can capture images in the absence of light that the human eye can’t see. According to the investigators, while using the camera in a hallway they captured what they described as a ‘mind-blowing figure,’ which was shown in the form of a ‘glitching and dancing stickman on the camera’s screen for a brief moment’ (I cannot make this up, they pulled it out of thin air).
After doing some research into the history of the structure, Bagans was wrong: Bundy never could have brought Deb Kent to this house, because it was actually occupied by two different families at the time of her abduction in November 1974. In an interview with KSNV, the Peterson family had five daughters residing there at the time Kent was abducted in November 1974, and ‘people have said that Ted Bundy took women over here and killed them in this house at the time that Debbie Kent got taken. We were living here. Two families were living here and never saw anything like that happen.’ … ‘I think it’s ridiculous because Ted Bundy never came over here. Nothing like that ever happened here.’ Cindy’s mother Rolean did share that she felt the residence was haunted (just not by Ted Bundy), and that the family experienced several strange things during their time in the house: on one occasion they were sitting in a front room and a white ball flew out the wall, seemingly out of nowhere.
Despite Bundy never having any actual ties to their former residence, Mrs. Peterson said that as mother of five young girls she made sure to always keep the doors locked, and ‘it was a really terrifying time for everybody here.’ She also commented that linking Bundy to the old residence only further exploits his victims, and that ‘he was a monster. And I don’t think he should be glorified in any manner at all. If they’re going to tell a story, they need to get their facts straight.’ KUTV out of Salt Lake reached out to Mrs. Belva Kent about the Travel Channel’s episode on the residence and she said that every time a movie or TV special is made about her daughter’s killer her family is forced to relive their pain and that the show only glorified the man that killed Debra.
According to a ‘deseret.com’ article published on July 5, 1997, the duplex went up in flames the day before after gas accumulated underneath the basement ceiling from a leak which caused the explosion (which was most likely ignited after the water heater kicked on). After an assessor was able to investigate the fire it was determined there was nearly $100K worth of damage done to the structure, with the first-floor apartment suffering the majority of it.
According to Redditor ‘OatyBisc,’ ‘I grew up in Bountiful (I even went to Viewmont HS where the abduction happened!) and this house has nothing to do with Ted Bundy other than proximity. I was excited to see an episode from my hometown but there were so many inaccuracies it drove me crazy! Debbie Kent’s body was never found, but they did find a patella at a site where they found bones from other murder victims and a few years ago they verified it was hers through DNA. This was maybe 20 miles or so from Bountiful, not 100 miles. Her headstone is in the city cemetery, but her body is not there. When she disappeared this house was occupied. It only looks bad now. I drive past it occasionally and it’s pretty worn and clearly burnt on the North end, but the fire was much later. It’s a spooky looking house and they have ghost tours there occasionally, but the Ted Bundy angle is a stretch.’ In addition to this, a Redditor going by the handle ‘pengony’ pointed out that when Bagans was told by locals that the house was completely unrelated to Bundy he told them that he didn’t care and was going to film there anyway.
Just as a side note, the episodes IMDB page gives a completely different narrative and outright fabrication of the truth: ‘Zak and the crew investigate an abandoned house in Bountiful, Utah, where locals claim notorious serial killer Ted Bundy murdered one of his victims. Overloaded with satanic rituals and violence, the home is drenched in a dark, sinister energy.’
Now… this isn’t just some old, dilapidated house with a possible (but, not really) link to Ted Bundy: referred to as the ‘Anson Call House,’ the residence was built by a pioneer of the Mormon faith (Anson Call, obviously) in the early days of Bountiful when it was known as Session’s Settlement (or North Canyon). The building, which began as a one-room cabin, was initially constructed in 1855 and the first additions to the home were made two years later when a dining room and kitchen area were built as well as a basement. Over the years a second floor was added, and it eventually turned into the structure you see today (or, before it blew up).
Interestingly enough though, Ted Bundy isn’t the house’s only murderous link: In Adam Call-Roberts blog post titled, ‘Mary & Anson Call: Hosts to a Killer,’ in October of 1857, Anson and Mary Call hosted then Utah Congressman John Doyle Lee overnight, blissfully unaware that just one month prior their guest participated in the ‘Mountain Meadows massacre.’ In September 1857 an emigrant group from Arkansas known as the Baker–Fancher party set up camp in Utah’s Mountain Meadows, which was a staging area in the southern part of the state that was used to get ready for the long crossing of the Mojave Desert by groups that were going west to California.
In the early morning hours of September 7, 1857 a group of Paiute Indian and Mormon militia men that were dressed as Native Americans attacked the circled wagons without warning. The party fought off their aggressors the best they could and the conflict went on for four days; in the process fifteen emigrant men were killed either in battle or while attempting to escape. Congressman Lee didn’t get involved in the dispute until the third day, when he approached the wagon party and convinced them to surrender their possessions and weapons in return for safe passage to nearby Cedar City. The emigrants (who were low on ammunition and supplies) accepted his offer and surrendered, and it was then that roughly 120 people from the Baker–Fancher party were then slaughtered, leaving only 17 small children behind. In 1874, Lee was arrested for leading the massacre: his first trial ended with a hung jury and two years later a second one took place in which the prosecuting attorneys put the blame solely on his shoulders. He was convicted and sentenced to death. On March 23, 1877, Lee was executed by firing squad at the very site of the massacre that took place twenty years before.
In conclusion, there’s a lot of different videos and podcasts on this residence, but one thing is for certain: Ted Bundy had absolutely nothing to do with this house.

The space was originally known as the Rainbow Tavern. At some point in the 1960’s, it became the Sandpiper Tavern. It switched back to the old name at some time in the 1970’s.The SandPiper as it looked when Ted and Liz met in the fall of 1969.The Fusion Ultra Lounge was the third-last bar to exist at this address. The location picked up a bad reputation for teenage drinking and violence. In February of 2015 everything came to a head when two teenagers were sent to the hospital following a shooting incident. The city of Seattle requested an emergency suspension of the club’s liquor license in response, and shortly afterwards the bar permanently closed it’s doors. Before Ladd and Lass, the spot was occupied by Floating Bridge Brewing. Unfortunately they were forced to close thanks to the financial strain of the Covid pandemic. What the former SandPiper looked like in April 2022.
On November 8th, 1974, 27 year old Ted Bundy left his apartment on 1st Avenue North in Salt Lake City and drove to the Fashion Place Mall on South State Street in Murray. From there, he attempted to kidnap 18 year-old phone operator Carol DaRonch, who was there doing some shopping after parking her maroon 1974 Camaro on the southern side of the mall’s parking lot. At the time, the storefront was occupied by Sears but today is a Dillard’s.
That evening at around 7 PM, DaRonch was standing outside a WaldenBooks when a man approached her. He identified himself as ‘Officer Roseland’ and asked if she parked by the Sears entrance of the mall. She said the man was polite and sounded well-educated. After Carol confirmed that she did, the ‘policeman’ told her that he witnessed someone attempting to break into her vehicle and requested that she go with him to assess the damage and see if anything was taken. DaRonch agreed, thinking Bundy was a real officer of the law, but once they arrived immediately realized her car was untouched and nothing at all was missing.
Despite assuring ‘Officer Roselund’ that everything was fine, Bundy was able to convince Carol to go with him back inside the mall and file an official complaint. Once inside, he began poking around the hallways, almost as if he were searching for someone. He then told Carol that ‘they’ must have taken the suspect to the nearby ‘police substation,’ then proceeded to walk her across the street to a closed laundromat on East St. South. The building was in a small, nondescript retail space and once there Ted tried to open its side door, which was conveniently locked (as the laundromat was closed). It was at that moment that DaRonch became suspicious of the ‘officer,’ and asked him for some identification. Almost as if he was waiting for the request, Ted pulled out his wallet and quickly flashed her a silver police badge. Carol immediately felt reassured and agreed to go with him to the main police station. Bundy then walked her back across the street to his waiting VW, and despite thinking it was an odd choice of vehicle for a police officer, she wondered that maybe he was working undercover and just went with it.
Once in Bundy’s Bug, the ‘officer’ immediately began heading in the opposite direction of the station. About driving for about a half-mile, he abruptly pulled the car over and onto a curb in front of McMillan Elementary School. Quickly realizing that something was wrong, Carol began panicking and demanded to know where they were going. Her captor seemed completely removed from the situation and just stared at her, not saying a word. While she tried to open the door to escape, Ted suddenly sprang to life, grabbed her left arm and slapped a handcuff on her wrist. During the struggle, DaRonch clawed and hit Bundy with such force that it prevented him from being able to get the handcuff on her other wrist.
In an effort to scare Carol, Bundy pulled out a small black pistol and threatened her with it. But instead of submitting, she continued to scream and fight against him until she was finally able to escape out of the passengers side door. Ted also got out of the car and pursued her with a crowbar, but thankfully Carol was able to flag down a passing motorist and get away.
Bundy took advantage of a hysterical and preoccupied DaRonch to quickly flee, and jumped back into his Beetle and drove off, furious that he had just let a potential victim get away. He then drove twenty-one miles away to Bountiful, where Debra Jean Kent and her parents were attending a play at Viewmont High School. When the performance went longer than expected, Debra volunteered to take the family car and pick up her two younger brothers at a local skating rink. It was only three miles away, and if traffic was light it should have been only a twenty minute round trip. Eventually an hour passed and Deb never returned to the auditorium. As more and more time went by, Mr. and Mrs. Kent grew anxious and decided to go outside and find a payphone.
After exiting the school, they were met with a sight that filled them with pure terror: in the parking lot was the family car. The Kent’s quickly realized that not only was their daughter missing, but their sons were still at the roller rink. Later that same evening, a search of the schools grounds took place, and classrooms were opened to make sure that Deb hadn’t accidentally been locked inside somehow. The Kent family and friends also searched some of the hills and canyons around Bountiful, but unfortunately they found no trace of the missing teenager.
The police initially told Belva Kent that 24 hours needed to pass before they were able to organize a search for the missing girl. In the beginning of the investigation law enforcement strongly speculated that the seventeen year old was just another runaway, but they were soon pressured into taking action. The next day, police and forensic experts combed Viewmont High School’s parking lot, and despite not finding any signs of a struggle they did find a discarded handcuff key outside of the auditorium on the western part of the school grounds. It didn’t take long for experts to determine it was a perfect fit to the handcuffsthat had been used during the attempted kidnapping of Carol DaRonch earlier that same day. It was now glaringly obvious that after DaRonch’s kidnapper fled the scene he quickly made the drive north to Bountiful, where he successfully abducted Debra Kent.
A man matching Bundy’s description was seen that evening lurking around the school, asking young women to help him ID a car in the parking lot. Raelynn Shepherd was a drama teacher at Viewmont High School who Ted repeatedly tried to lure outside. Shepherd said that he had a ‘nervousness’ about him that made her feel uncomfortable and didn’t care for the way he was looking at her. Because of that, she told him that she was too busy to help; when she saw him again at around 10:45 PM his hair was messed up and he was breathing heavily. This was about 20–30 minutes after Kent had left the school to pick up her brothers, which means Bundy returned to Viewmont after abducting her. His motivations for doing this are unclear: he may have been trying to establish an alibi by appearing in public immediately after the abduction. Or, perhaps he was looking for a second victim. We’ll never know. Additional eyewitnesses reported hearing a woman screaming in the parking lot at roughly the same time that Kent left the auditorium. Another individual came forward and reported that they saw a VW Beetle driving away from the high school.
Bundy became the prime suspect behind Deb’s disappearance after he was arrested for the attempted kidnapping of Carol DaRonch. However, law enforcement didn’t have enough evidence to charge him with the abduction. As the years passed by, it seemed less and less likely that Kents’ remains would ever be recovered. The family lived at 23 East 3500 Street South in Bountiful, and after she disappeared her mother left their porch light on for years in hopes that it would somehow bring her home.Right before he was put to death in January 1989, Bundy finally confessed to killing Deb Kent. He said that he brought her back to his apartment and after ‘keeping her for a while’ murdered her. He then put her body in his car and drove 105 miles away to Fairview Canyon, where he buried her remains about 3 feet deep, under some heavy rocks. After searching the Canyon, law enforcement found a patella (kneecap), and it is likely that her other bones were scavenged and spread around by wildlife over time. Although the ME’s office determined that the bone was human, they weren’t able to test it beyond that until 2015, when a cold-case detective stumbled across Kent’s DNA that had never been entered into the NamUs database. At that point, he reached out to Mrs. Kent, who held onto the only piece of her daughter she had left and asked if he could take the bone for genetic testing.
Although she gave the detective the patella, Mrs. Kent told him that she didn’t want to know the results. In her mind, it belonged to Debra and didn’t want to be told otherwise. Thankfully her fears were put to rest five months later, when the results came back that the bone belonged to Debra. Mrs. Kent said that her daughters murder destroyed her family: her younger son, Bill blamed himself for his sister’s death and died in an alcohol-related car accident on February 3rd, 1985. Shortly after Deb’s disappearance, Dean Kent quit his job as an oil executive, began drinking, walked out on his marriage, and fathered a child. He died from cancer at the age of 78 on January 2nd, 2016. In a 1989 interview, Belva Kent said that Ted Bundy was a ‘cancer’ that tore her family apart. She passed away on June 22, 2023.

Aleca Renee Manning was born on March 13, 1952 in Fairbanks, Alaska and was adopted shortly after by James and Norma Manning. I wasn’t able to find out a lot about her background and childhood but apparently she ‘has a few half-siblings out there.’ Ms. Manning had green eyes, brownhair, was roughly 5’2” tall, weighed 125pounds and was biracial (white and Native American). Aleca was described as ‘friendly, a happy flower child, and probably a bit naive… too trusting.’ Norma Manning worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for a few different employers in Alaska, Arizona, and Texas. It was reported that she had an incredibly toxic relationship with her husband and after they divorced she took Aleca and moved to Arizona (James eventually moved there too and remarried). After finishing high school, Mr. Manning attended the University of Idaho and the Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle and got a job in the banking industry; at one time he was the VP/Manager of Valley National Bank in Metha, AZ.
Also referred to as ‘Leca’ and ‘Lisa’ (pronounced ‘uh-Lisa’), in 1970 Aleca graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa, AZ (it’s incorrectly listed as 1971 in multiple sources). Leca was supposedly a bit of a wild child and reportedly struggled with some substance abuse issues. According to a family member, alcoholism ran in the Manning family: ‘her grandmother (who is Norma sister) died of alcoholism living homeless at a YMCA. And when Lisa was young Norma had a very volatile relationship with her husband. They left Alaska either to get away from him or because he died. Aunt Norma told me he was very abusive.’ (I realize this wouldn’t really apply to Aleca since she was adopted but maybe growing up in an environment with lots of alcohol around her trigger a budding problem).
Aleca was last seen on February 17, 1975 at roughly 10:30 PM at the Celebrity Theatre located at 440 North 32nd Street in Phoenix, Arizona. The twenty-two year old went to a Jerry Jeff Walker concert but at some point got separated from her friend group. She failed to come home that night and never showed up for work the following day. It’s hypothesized that she may have indulged in some form of drug use at the concert (no judgment, we were all young once) and I wonder if this made her more vulnerable and easier to abduct or lure away. DeniseNaslund apparently took a few Valiums with alcohol before she was abducted from LakeSammamish in July 1974 and I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way (I say this as an addict with over 12 years sober) but I hope whatever she took dulled her senses enough that she wasn’t aware of the fact that her life was ending. Aleca was last seen wearing a dark green floor-length coat, a light green blouse with moss green pants, and dark tan shoes.
As of April 2023 no one has been charged in the disappearance of Aleca Manning but foul play is suspected. Leca’s family feels that whoever she left that concert with is most likely who abducted her and that her killer most likely dumped her remains in a desert. What’s interesting is when I was doing research on this case I stumbled upon some comments from a relative of Aleca’s on the website ‘Websleuths’ (user name is Kristine55 andNorma was her great Aunt): ‘Norma Manning is sisters with my father’s mother. Leca (I will use Lisa so I can dictate). She would be very touched to know that people still care. Now that Norma is gone I look from time to time to see if there’s any updates and that’s how I found you all.’ … ‘One more thing I don’t think that Lisa would have run away and never contacted her mom again… There was no reason. The way Norma described the relationship it was these two against the world and that she was a precious wonderful little girl. Lisa was the center of Normas life.’ … ‘Her family thinks that a serial killer got her and that she probably left with him. And there is a possibility but she was taking drugs at night. We have always felt that her body is somewhere in the desert. The only good thing I can say is I know that they were united now I don’t believe this because of religion but because of physics and the fact that everything in life is waves of energy… Matter cannot be destroyed it can only be changed. I feel like they found each other again. I was born in January 1975 and I never met Lisa or if I did I was less than two months old. She still has an effect on my life because I’m still thinking about her. Her and I look eerily similar at the same age. I feel like I’m just checking up to see what’s going on because I’m carrying the torch for aunt Norma. Incidentally, I graduated high school in Tucson Arizona. I wanted to go see Morrissey in concert in Phoenix when I was 17… I was not allowed to go without my stepmother. I don’t think my dad’s forgotten what happened to Lisa either.’
At the time Manning disappeared Ted was living in Salt Lake City and was enrolled in law school for a second time. He was unemployed and still in a long-distance relationship with Liz Kloepfer (although its common knowledge he was routinely unfaithful to her). The drive from his apartment to the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona would have been slightly over a twenty-two hour trip for Bundy (or about 1,421 miles one way). If you look at the ‘TB MultiAgency Investigative Team Report 1992,’ it was noted that he took a phone call in SLC the day Manning disappeared (also Caryn Campbell’s body was found 2.8 miles away from The Wildwood Inn in Aspen). In my opinion, it seems unlikely that Bundy killed Aleca (but apparently there are some sort of errors/inaccuracies in the report so who knows).
As we know, Ted didn’t have a problem driving hundreds of miles in one night while hunting for his prey. Another two abductions that fit in Bundy’s mid-1970’s time frame are Cynthia and Jackie Leslie, who vanished in Mesa, AZ on July 31, 1974 (Teri is covering the sisters’ background in Part One so I won’t be redundant here). They were last seen In Mesa walking to a friend’s house shortly after leaving their residence in the Desert Shores Mobile Home Park. We know at the time they disappeared in 1974 Bundy was living at the Rogers Rooming house in Seattle, so if he killed them he would have had to drive to Mesa, then back again to Seattle… one way is over 22 hours, that’s almost an entire days worth of driving just one way with no breaks. In my opinion, that’s a bit of a stretch. Additionally, I drove a newer VW for over three years and that’s a very long trip for a car like that. And Bundy drove a LOT… how long could an old Beetle last with him driving around the country like that?
There really isn’t much out there on whether or not Bundy was active in Arizona (when you search ‘Ted Bundy’ and ‘Arizona’ together you mostly get a lot of news articles on Ted from AZ based newspapers). I’ve never seen it discussed in any TB related literature, and even searching websites like Reddit/YouTube (where people LOVE weird conspiracy type shit like this) relevant information is slim pickings. Oddly enough, one of the only things I found was a really popular BuzzFeed video (with a whopping 4.5 million views) titled ‘Was my Mom Followed by Ted Bundy?,’ where a young man simply going by the name of ‘Chris’ discusses an alleged encounter his Mom had with Ted Bundy in the middle-1970’s in Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona. Unfortunately, Chris doesn’t give much of a time frame beyond it was ‘summer in the mid-70’s’ (I asked for a better idea of when this event took place with no response and searched through the YouTube comments for clarification with no success), which obviously leaves us wide open as far as where Bundy was living at the time and how long his drive to the Canyon would have been. The story goes (I’m only going to briefly summarize this because you can find the transcript in Teri’s article): Chris’s Mother, Aunt, and their friend went to Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona, and while sitting at a pond just hanging out, enjoying the day they noticed a well-dressed man staring at them from across the water. Eventually he got up and started walking over to them ‘with intent,’ so the three friends got in their car and got out of there to not escalate the situation. Surprisingly, the mystery man got in his vehicle and followed them in a ‘yellowish, cream colored VW Beetle.’ Panicked, they finally pulled into a gas station and thankfully the man drove right by them. Fast forward about 15 years: Chris’ Mom (I’m not exactly sure what else to call her) is watching the news and sees that Bundy is about to be put to death in Florida. She sees his face and immediately realizes it was the man that followed her that day in the 1970’s. Oddly enough, her sister was watching the same news broadcast and immediately called to say that she felt it was him that followed them as well.
If this encounter happened on the earlier end of the mid-70’s when he was living in Seattle it would have been over a twenty-one hour drive just one-way (or roughly 1,375 miles). Ted moved into a room at Ernst and Freda Rogers boarding house in September 1969 lived there until September 2, 1974 when he moved from Salt Lake City to attend law school at the University of Utah. Now, if he would have driven to Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona while living in Utah it would have been about a little overan eight and a half hour drive, one way. But let’s not forget, he did abduct Roberta Kathleen Parks from the University of Oregon in Corvallis while living in Seattle, which was almost a five hour drive away (I know that’s still over 3.5 hours closer than Oak Creek Canyon but it helps prove my point that Bundy had no problem driving long distances).
What doesn’t make sense to me about this is I’ve never heard of Bundy going after three victims at once. Shit, it isn’t even confirmed he abducted more than one girl at the same time, even though it’s speculated he may have been involved in the 1969 Jersey Parkway murders where two girlfriends on vacation Memorial Day weekend were killed as well as the brutal assault of two stewardesses from the Capitol Hill area of Seattle in 1966. I mean, I’m not saying it wasn’t Ted, but I’m also not saying it was. About this story my friend Erin Banks points out in her book ‘Ted Bundy: Examining the Unconfirmed SurvivorStories‘ that he ‘had coveralls in the trunk at all times. I have some trouble imagining that Bundy, dressed in a suit and tie, would chase after a group of women.’ Good point Erin.
We know Ted has never officially been linked to Arizona (no unconfirmed victims are from there either) but in my mind it really isn’t that far-fetched that he would have driven states away to commit more crimes against humanity. In fact, the more jurisdictions to help trip up the police the better (law enforcement in the 70’s were notorious for not sharing information with one another). In the only other semi-useful piece of information I could find about this topic, (a Reddit thread titled ‘Ted Bundy was active in Arizona’), user ‘Gothkatt’ begins by breaking down Chris’ BuzzFeed video, pointing out that the incident took place in the mid-70’s, which as we all know aligns up with Bundy’s murder spree (which officially went from 1974 to 1978 even though he was incarcerated for a good chunk of 1976 and almost all of 1977). What’s interesting about this time frame is that there are five unsolved missing female cases in Arizona from 1974-1975. The first case from this period took place on September 20, 1973: law enforcement deemed the disappearance of 14 year old Dorothy Mildred Clitheroe to be ‘fairly unremarkable’ and they strongly speculated that she ran away from home to a different state. I discussed the disappearance of Aleca Manning and Teri covered the two Leslie sisters. The fifth and final individual from that time period vanished on September 10, 1975, which was after Ted was arrested (a 21 year-old named Kristina Ann Perkins). After Perkins disappeared in Fall 1975 there was a two year gap and the next missing woman’s case didn’t occur until 1977.
Oddly enough as I was proofreading this (and almost ready to release it) I stumbled upon a third source of information in the form of a TikTok video: a user by the name of ‘mattyicerants‘ said that in 1969 his Mother drove her VW Beetle from New York to Arizona and took a pit stop at the Grand Canyon. While there she ran into a gentleman (driving a tan colored Bug) and asked if he ‘wouldn’t mind taking her picture;’ ‘Bundy’ agreed (the user couldn’t find the print but claims to have seen it). ‘Mattyicerants’ went on to elaborate that the same year Bundy went through a break up (with DianeEdwards) and because of that heartache he drove ‘all around the country.’ This is easily debunk-able as the ‘TB Multiagency Investigative Team Report 1992’ pinpoints that Ted bought his tan/gold/bronze/tan/cream/off-white/yellow Beetle in spring 1973. Also, in 1969 Ted was in Pennsylvania for roughly the first half of the year and when he went home to Tacoma he was driving a professors car (dropping it off in California then going to Tacoma). I was unable to find what kind of car it was.
Exactly seven years to the day she disappeared, in 1982 Norma Manning had her daughter officially declared dead in the state of Texas. She moved to Myra, TX to be close to her Father and died on July 12, 2008 at the age of 86; she never fully recovered from her daughter’s disappearance. James Manning passed away in August 1971. As of April 2023 the disappearance of Aleca Manning remains unsolved.

Was it ever confirmed? No. Could he have killed in Arizona? Absolutely. I am here to convince you it could have happened. Keep your mind open, we are dealing with Bundy, after all. Anything is possible. I don’t have concrete proof, but no one will ever know how many more states he committed murder in. The times do line up and he killed girls in Colorado, Utah, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Florida. Utah is right above Arizona and Colorado is very close too, so why wouldn’t he also travel to Arizona?
A map of the US.
The second map is the US in the 1970s. Both maps show how easy it would have been to come into Arizona from the other states he was active in. Arizona has miles of desert, and he could have buried girls never to be found again. Looking at the chart, in 1974, he was in four states: Utah, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Arizona is right there.
Here is a video I found: This person is wondering the same thing: If Bundy ever was in AZ. Here again, no real proof, only the suggestion of him being in Arizona. This video has the author raising the same questions as I had. It really could have happened. As a reminder, it was hard to track someone in the 70s. He could have easily paid cash for gas as a lot of us did at that time. I believe this was why he got away with murdering so many girls because it was so hard to track someone. The 70s was also a time when we were raised to help others, which was the downfall of the victims.

My mom was followed by a murderer, and this is that story. All right so this story goes all the way back to the mid-1970s. So, this is my mom’s junior year of high school. Well it was the end of her junior year of high school, I guess I should say. Actually, it was the start of her summer vacation. It was a beautiful day so my mom, her sister, and her friend, decided to take a little day trip. So, the three of them hop in the car and they’re off. So, it takes them about two and a half hours to get there. They’re listening to the radio, talking about things they wanna do for the summer, and eventually they arrive at their destination, Oak Creek Canyon Park. So, for context this trip and this entire story is all taking place in Northern Arizona. The park they’re at sits in the middle of Coconino National Forest. So, one of the main reasons they wanted to go to this park is because it’s absolutely gorgeous over there. There’s trees, mountains… One of the things they notice when they get there is that it is very open. Almost too open. So, they park their car in a small parking lot and they start scoping out an area for them to hang out. They end up plopping down at a small pond by the park with plans to just hang out for a few hours. They had bought some food, they were maybe gonna do a picnic. They didn’t really know, other than the fact that they were just enjoying, that summer had just begun. I feel like it’s important to mention that my mom has been to this park before. She’s been there a few times with some friends and what not. But it was very empty that day. Which was strange for such a nice day. Anyway, so there they are just hanging out, when suddenly my mom notices a man across the pond. A couple minutes go by and my mom is sitting there trying to stay engaged in the conversation with her sister, when she stares back across the pond. The man is still standing there. He’s staring at them, rubbing his chin thoughtfully like, I see you. Obviously, my mom’s first thought is, “what they hell is this guy doing out here by himself?” and “why is he staring at us like that?” Trying her best not to stare back she does a few quick glances at best and she notices his clothes. He’s really well dressed. Which is just another weird detail that didn’t seem to add up to my mom. “We should just move to another area. “I’m getting really creeped out”, she thought to herself. After deciding that the situation isn’t normal, she gets the attention of her sister and her friend, pointing at the man staring at them across the pond. They tell her she’s overthinking it and she’s just being crazy. He’s probably there just enjoying the park like anyone else would. It is a public park after all. And you know they were probably right. People are allowed to be outside. People are allowed to go to public parks. Whatever. Still feeling uneasy, my mom tries her best to go back to just enjoying her day. Out of the corner of her eye, she notices a slight movement. Instantly her eyes dart back across the pond. The man isn’t there anymore. Suddenly she catches sight of the man. He’s walking along the edge of the pond, headed their direction. The scariest part, he was walking with intention. He was walking toward them. And to my mom, that was it. So as to not escalate the situation any further, because my mom had no idea what was going to happen, my mom softly but sternly pointed out the man walking across the pond. Finally, they all agree that something wasn’t right about this situation, and that they should move, now. As quickly and quietly as they could, they gathered their things and headed back to the car. All the while, my mom is sneaking glances at him. He was still there, walking with an even quicker pace than he was before. Closing in on where they had just been seconds before. My mom will say to this day, she had the worst feeling in the pit of her stomach. She was practically hyperventilating. Out of fear, instinct, caution, whatever you wanna call it, my mom picks up a rock on the way to the car. They reach the car; they throw their stuff in the trunk and they pile in. My mom is hunched over in the back seat clutching the rock for dear life. She peaks out the back window as the car starts. She doesn’t see him. Wherever he was, they needed to get outta there. With the tires practically squealing out of the parking lot, they race down the same road they drove in on. At this point, everyone’s eyes are glued to the rearview mirror. “So that was weird,” my mom thought to herself. Rock in hand, my mom was definitely shaken up. My mom’s sister, the one who was driving the car, quickly looks in the rearview mirror, and she says, “oh my god look.” The energy in the air, they felt cold. They just felt wrong. Slowly my mom peers out the back window one more time. To her horror, she sees a car emerging from the same parking lot, following them. She’ll never forget the feeling of watching a yellowish, cream-colored, Volkswagen Beetle slowly gaining ground on them. Now, everyone was truly terrified. What did this person want? Why was he following them? All my mom knew was this person is evil. She could feel it. Her sister floors the gas peddle, and luckily, they were able to maintain a distance between themselves and this man. Eventually they get to a gas station, and they pull over to what they hope is safety. To their surprise, and ultimately their relief, the man drives right by them. My mom, my mom’s sister and her friend, they were all really unsettled by the whole thing. Now, you’re probably wondering why I just told you that story, please don’t go anywhere. I’m about to explain the craziest part. So about 15 years go by. My mom’s just at home, minding her own business watching the news, when she sees that convicted serial killer Ted Bundy is about to be sentenced to death. She’s watching the news learning more about this man, and she learns that he was well dressed, he drove a yellow, cream-colored Volkswagen Beetle, and he committed several murders in Colorado. Which is right about Arizona. And as she’s watching the news, the phone rings. My mom’s sister, my aunt who was with her when this happened all those years ago, is watching the same broadcast when she calls my mom. And without even saying hello, the very first thing my aunt says is, “Do you think it was him?” And without missing a beat, my mom slowly says, “I know it was him.”
Now, I know you might be thinking that Ted didn’t chase his victims, but he did chase Carol DaRonch after she got away so he could have done that. So, he was not above chasing his victims.
There are many missing girls from Ted Bundy’s timeline, and we may never know if he killed them or not. There are several missing girls from this timeline in Arizona. The ones that stick out for me are 2 sisters that went missing in 1974. If you check the timeline, you can see he was active in all states in 1974. He could have easily come down to Arizona and tricked those girls in his car. He could have had another car he was using too. The first two are sisters who both went missing on July 31st, 1974. They were 13 and 15 years old. Bundy was very active during 1974 and is confirmed to have murdered two young women near Seattle. Two weeks later the two Arizona girls go missing. Could he be responsible? And why would he have traveled that far? Well, Bundy had moved to Utah for law school during this time, which is a state above Arizona, why wouldn’t he also travel to Arizona?
The third unsolved Arizona missing female went missing on February 17, 1975. She was a beautiful 22-year-old woman, Bundy’s type. Bundy has a known murder in January of that year, and March, but February is missing. Again, the times line up. (I will find info on this third girl and hand it over to Jessica to cover.)
Here is the story of the missing sisters:
On July 31st, 1974, Cindy Leslie, 15 and Jackie Leslie, 13 disappeared from Mesa, Arizona. They were both born to parents, Jack, and Erma Leslie. Cindy Leslie was born on February 1st, 1959, and Jackie Leslie on February 15th, 1961. Cindy was 5’6 and 109 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Jackie had brown hair and blue eyes and was 110 pounds at 5’4.
Their parents, Jack, and Erma Leslie had been at church and their grandmother was home at the time the girls left. She later told police, Cynthia had received a phone call just before leaving, wrote a note to her parents, and left with Jackie. That warm July evening, the two girls were seen walking down Baseline Road away from their home at the Desert Sands Mobile Home Park, near the intersection at Sossaman Road. They had left a note for their parents saying they were going to babysit at the “same place,” referencing a family’s home where they had babysat before.
Erma later learned that the girls had planned on going to a party about three blocks from their residence on Power Road. Cynthia wanted to see a boy that her parents had forbidden her to see. It is not clear if they ever arrived at the party. Some who attended said they never arrived; others who went said they did attend. That evening when the girls didn’t arrive home. Erma worriedly slept on the couch waiting for them. Remember this was a time before cell phones, GPS, and the Internet. The only means they had was to either leave a note or call on a landline. They lived at a
time when Phoenix and the surrounding areas were still quite rural. You could smell the sweet orange blossoms drifting from the acres of orchards; families still sat outside their homes chatting and backyard barbecues brought families together. At that time Phoenix was still safe and no one worried about their daughters being out. The girls left a note that they were going to go babysit. The girls were seen walking down Baseline Road away from their house. This was the last time they would be seen. Back in 1974, it was a remote desert surrounded by cotton fields and orange groves. Police searched the area, but no evidence of the girls was ever found. It was a time when kids could run around outside, and parents weren’t concerned about murderers wandering the streets preying upon their children.
Or at least that was the perception. At the time of the girl’s disappearance, the Leslie family was new to the desert mobile home community. They had moved from Page, Arizona, about four hours north. Jack Leslie, their father, had terminal lung cancer so they moved to be closer to his doctors but sadly, Jack passed away seven months after his daughters disappeared.
Erma says the girls would have never left during their father’s illness as they were very close. Forty-four years later, the girls’ mother Erma Leslie, and their sister continue the search despite the lack of evidence and the amount of time passed. “I was sure that they would call me and tell me to come and get them,” Erma said. “But it didn’t happen. It still hasn’t happened.” As deputies ran out of theories and leads, Erma took charge. She brought fliers to sheriff’s departments in Arizona and southern California. Desperate for answers, she visited a psychic in the Los Angeles area who told her at the time the girls were alive and near water, so she drove up the California coast looking for them. She received an anonymous phone call from Casa Grande from someone who said Cindy and Jackie were on a train that was going to go through Douglas, Arizona. Erma and Linda drove there and searched the train, but didn’t find anything.
